A delightful dish that showcases the unique textures of tofu, complemented by a delicious dipping sauce.

INGREDIENTS

  • Soft-medium tofu (1 pound)
  • Cornstarch (1/4 cup)
  • Salt (1/2 tsp)
  • Garlic powder (1/2 tsp)
  • White pepper (1/4 tsp)
  • Vegetable oil (4 tbsp)
  • Scallion, chopped (1)

For the Sauce:

  • Soy sauce (2 tbsp)
  • Oyster sauce (1 tbsp)
  • Sesame oil (1/2 tbsp)
  • Sugar (1/2 tsp)
  • Water (2 tbsp)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Prep the Tofu: Begin by slicing your block of tofu in half lengthwise. Following this, cut them into rectangles that are about 1/2 inch thick. Make sure to pat the tofu dry using either a cloth or paper towel to remove excess moisture. This will help in achieving a crispier texture when pan-frying.
  2. Sauce Preparation: Combine the ingredients for the sauce in a separate bowl. This includes the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and water. Stir them well and set it aside for later use.
  3. Prepare the Tofu Coating: In a different dish, mix together the cornstarch, salt, garlic powder, and white pepper. This dry mix will serve as the tofu's coating, giving it a crisp exterior during the frying process.
  4. Pan-Frying: With your non-stick pan set on medium heat, pour in the vegetable oil. Once the oil is heated, take your tofu slices and coat them evenly with the dry mixture you prepared in the previous step. Place the coated tofu in the pan and fry them for approximately 5 minutes on each side. They should turn crispy and attain a golden color.
  5. Serving: Transfer the crispy tofu pieces onto your serving plate.
  6. Sauce Cooking: Using the same pan you used for the tofu, pour in the sauce mixture you prepared earlier. Allow it to cook for a couple of minutes. After cooking, you have the option to either drizzle this sauce over the tofu or serve it on the side as a complementary dipping sauce.
  7. Garnishing: As a final touch, garnish your dish with freshly chopped scallion.
